Workshop: Advanced Characterization of Acoustic Materials and Fire Performance

Purpose: The main objectives of the workshop are to provide advanced training for young researchers in modern experimental methods for the acoustic characterization of materials, to introduce participants to standardized techniques for measuring sound absorption and determining acoustic parameters of porous and composite materials, to present current approaches for evaluating the fire performance of acoustic materials, including reaction-to-fire classification procedures and calorimetric testing principles, to strengthen interdisciplinary competencies by integrating knowledge from acoustic engineering and fire safety engineering, to promote knowledge exchange and scientific collaboration between partner institutions and invited experts.

Date of workshop: April 6-7, 2026
Place of meeting: Hotel “Tami Residence” and Laboratory of Noise and Vibration
at Faculty of Occupational Safety in Niš, Serbia

Training during M5 “Advanced Characterization of Acoustic Materials and Fire Performance” (Niš, Serbia; April 6-7, 2026; FOS UNI Lab/Hotel Tami Residence), in-person and online:

This 2-day training workshop brought together 28 participants (RS, BG) from the partner institutions and industry. The event strengthened competencies in acoustic characterization, reaction-to-fire assessment, calorimetric testing, and interdisciplinary collaboration, while supporting the use of the project equipment, ML-based optimization, and further validation of the developed materials.

Objectives: Acoustic methods (porous/composite parameters), fire testing (reaction-to-fire/calorimetry), interdisciplinary skills, collaboration.

Impact: Direct boost to further cooperation and exchange, advanced testing using the purchased equipment and beyond, ML optimization and industry validation.
